Do You Know What You Want?

Having free time that we can use any way we want to is one way we can figure out what we really want.

Have you ever felt like you're in the movie Groundhog Day, where the character played by Bill Murray relives the same day over and over again?

Sometimes it feels like momentum has taken over and you’re just going through the motions. You do what you need to do, but you’re not even really engaged in life. This can happen when we are busy, busy, busy and we fill up any free time with more busy-ness.

It’s great to stay busy and to make the most of your life and your moments, but we also need time that is just available.We need free, open time without anything scheduled—not even a massage or coffee with friends. 

When you allow yourself some unscheduled time, you’re allowing your brain to unwind. Things that you’ve forgotten you wanted can float to the surface. As you follow your whims during your unscheduled time, you free up your energy from things that overstimulate you.

You need this time to process who you are, what you like, what you want and how you feel in your body.

So create some empty space. A full day is ideal, but if you can’t get that, set aside at least four or five hours. Relax and do what you want to during those hours, but definitely ask “Is this where I want to be, or has momentum just taken over?”

It’s only in that empty space, that creative flow where you’re connected to yourself and not just receiving outside stimuli all the time, that you can intuitively feel whether your life is on course and headed toward your desires.

  • Set aside some empty time for yourself and DON’T FILL IT WITH PLANS OF ANY KIND. When that time arrives, then you can decide how you’ll spend it. Your choices will be a clue of whether you’re on course and getting what you need or whether you need to make some adjustments.
  • Throughout this time, ask yourself what you want. Pay attention to the answers, and prepare to act on them when you can.

You’re the most important VIP in your life, so take some time for yourself every week! Use that unscheduled time to feel into whether or not you’re still headed toward your desires, and you’ll stay on track, motivated, loving life and living in pleasure.
